Wetherspoons could be coming to Farnham as a deal to take over a town centre nightspot has been confirmed.

The popular pub chain hopes to move into the East Street unit currently occupied by the Slug & Lettuce.

No opening date has been set but the firm’s spokesperson, Eddie Gershon, confirmed the news this morning (Monday) following an enquiry by the Herald over the weekend.

He said: “We can confirm that Wetherspoon has exchanged to purchase the former Slug & Lettuce site in East Street, Farnham.

“The company is looking forward to opening the new pub.

“At present there are no on site or opening dates.

“Wetherspoon is confident that its new pub will be an asset to the town.”

The future of the Slug & Lettuce had been uncertain as owners Stonegate warned in January that increased interest payments on their £2.5million debt could lead to closures.
