HEADLEY Bowling Club’s members were blessed with an afternoon of lovely spring sunshine as they gathered for the season’s opening.
A strong attendance of bowlers and spectators gathered at the Mill Lane green to enjoy the opening event.
Club president Don Stephens welcomed all the members before giving the signal for the traditional green opening spider. This is achieved by the bowlers spacing around the green and bowling at a mock spider placed centrally. The nearest bowl earns a bottle of bubbly and this year’s winner was Pat Clifford. Club captain John Milton arranged the players into sides and they enjoyed a session of bowls to reacquaint themselves with the green. The afternoon was completed with members gathering in the pavilion to enjoy tea and a grand raffle.
In addition to cup and friendly fixtures, the club will play in Division 1 and Division 4 of the Three Counties League.
