WHEN the time came for any other business at Headley Bowling Club’s annual general meeting earlier this month, two of the members were given delightful surprises.
The first recipient was the club’s long serving treasurer Peter Osland, who was standing down from the position.
He was awarded the club’s highest accolade when he was presented with the certificate of Honorary Life Membership.
Making the presentation was club president Don Stephens, who said that Peter had served in the role for 20 years continuously.
The club owed much to his dedicated efforts for the current sound financial position it had.
Peter has also been fully involved over those years in a hands-on role with practical improvements achieved with the club’s surrounds.
He still found time to play bowls very successfully, not only being fully involved at club level but also gaining his county badge and representing it on a number of occasions.
The second presentation saw a flower basket from all the members presented to Jean Hole to celebrate her 90th birthday.
The club president expressed his congratulations and stated that Jean played regularly and even entered club competitions.
Don said Jean’s charming approach and application to the game was a good example to all the members.
