Badshot Lea crashed to an emphatic 4-0 defeat at home to Leatherhead in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Goals from Ruben Bartlett-Antwi, George Hedley, Kareem Akinnibi and Matthew Everitt gave the Tanners the three points in front of a crowd of 321 at Westfield Lane.
The visitors were quick out of the traps and took the lead in the first minute when Bartlett-Antwi fired an excellent right-foot volley into the right-hand corner of the net past Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron.
The Tanners nearly doubled their lead five minutes later when Bartlett-Antwi’s header from a corner went just over the bar.
Bartlett-Antwi continued to be a threat and his shot in the ninth minute was well blocked by Baggies centre-back George Winkworth.
Leatherhead scored their second of the afternoon from the resulting corner when former Baggie Kane Fitzgerald’s delivery found Hedley – another former Baggie – at the back post and Hedley headed home past Cawdron into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
The Baggies had their first effort of the afternoon on 15 minutes when Luis Le Paih’s left-foot shot from just outside the box went wide of the right-hand post.
The visitors continued to look dangerous going forward and they nearly went 3-0 up in the 24th minute when Hedley’s header forced an excellent diving save from Cawdron.
Leatherhead did score their third three minutes later when a quick counter-attack ended with Bartlett-Antwi clipping a ball over the top to former Baggie Akinnibi, who calmly lifted his finish over the onrushing Cawdron and into the empty net.
The Baggies nearly pulled a goal back on 42 minutes when Luke Jarvie’s corner found Le Paih, but his header went wide of the right-hand post.
Leatherhead then almost scored a fourth before half-time when Fitzgerald’s cross found the unmarked Akinnibi in the box, but he put his header over the bar.
The Tanners continued to create chances after the break and substitute Rhys Murrell-Williams’ powerful left-foot shot from distance on 54 minutes was well parried behind for a corner by Cawdron.
Badshot Lea nearly pulled a goal back in the 71st minute when substitute Dawid Hamiga drove forward from midfield and hit a decent right-foot shot just wide of the left-hand post.
The Baggies went close again on 80 minutes when Hamiga’s corner found the unmarked Callum Wiltshire at the near post, who flicked his effort over the bar.
The hosts had another decent chances four minutes later when Steven Sylla’s shot was well blocked by Cameron Black.
The Tanners scored their fourth of the afternoon in stoppage time when Everitt calmly placed his finish past Cawdron.
Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Combined Counties Premier Division South outfit Tadley Calleva in the Aldershot Senior Cup on Tuesday, March 25 (7.45pm kick-off).
