Badshot Lea slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Hartley Wintney in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Noah Amissah’s 29th-minute goal was enough to give the visitors the three points in front of a crowd of 139 at Westfield Lane.

Hartley Wintney were quick out of the traps and nearly took the lead in the first 30 seconds when Sam Tanner’s swerving effort from 25 yards out was well parried away by Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron.

The visitors went close again in the second minute when Amissah was played in by Ellis Orsborn and his powerful effort flashed across goal.

The Baggies created their first chance of the evening on 13 minutes when Dawid Hamiga got on the end of a ball over the top and hit a low right-foot shot which was well held by Hartley Wintney keeper Nick Jupp.

The visitors went back on the attack and nearly took the lead in the 18th minute when Louie Downey’s shot was held by Cawdron.

Hartley Wintney did break the deadlock on 29 minutes when Amissah brought the ball down in the box and clinically fired past Cawdron.

The visitors pushed for a second before the break and Tom Drinkwater fired just over the bar in the 38th minute.

Hartley Wintney nearly doubled their advantage on 51 minutes when Orsborn set up Aderi Dede, but his close-range effort was superbly saved by Cawdron.

Calvin Camara was next to try his luck for the visitors in the 56th minute when his effort was gathered by Cawdron.

Camara went even closer on 67 minutes with an excellent left-foot free kick which hit the post.

Badshot Lea remained in the game at 1-0 down and had an excellent chance to equalise in the 84th minute, but Ben Thompson’s effort went wide of the near post.

The equaliser failed to arrive for the Baggies as the visitors claimed the three points.

Next up for the Baggies is a home game against Leatherhead in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday, March 22 (3pm kick-off).
