Badshot Lea earned a 2-2 draw against Isthmian League South Central Division high-fliers Kingstonian.
Luis Le Paih’s double had the Baggies on course for three points, but the visitors scored a 90th-minute equaliser to earn a share of the spoils in front of a crowd of 137 at Westfield Lane.
The Baggies got off to a dream start and took the lead in the fifth minute through Le Paih’s first goal.
Marcus Marko got the ball on the left channel and passed inside to Aitor Andon. Andon played a neat pass to Le Paih, who hit his right-foot shot past Kingstonian keeper Liam Allen into the bottom left-hand corner of the net from 25 yards out.
The visitors had a good chance to equalise on eight minutes when Palace Francis arrived at the back post but put his left-foot effort wide.
Francis had another chance three minutes later but his wild right-foot shot went well wide.
Reuben Duncan was next to try his luck for Kingstonian, but he hit his left-foot shot wide of the far post.
Francis continued to be a threat and he cut in from the left on 15 minutes and hit his low left-foot short wide of the right-hand post.
The visitors continued to press and Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron was off his line quickly to block Eddie Simon’s effort in the 17th minute.
The hosts nearly doubled their advantage two minutes later when Baback Dehghani hit a left-foot shot which was well held by former Baggie Allen.
Kingstonian went back on the attack and Stan Flaherty’s left-foot shot was comfortably held by Cawdron, before James McShane fired over from close range on 24 minutes when he should have done better.
The Baggies went close in the 28th minute when Dehghani’s free kick picked out Callum Wiltshire at the back post, and his header back across goal went just wide of the far post.
The hosts went close again on 36 minutes when Le Paih’s right-foot shot went over the bar, before Marko fired over from a tight angle a minute later.
The visitors then got back on level terms in the 44th minute when Simon swept home from close range.
The Baggies responded perfectly to that setback and regained the lead in first-half stoppage time when Dehghani’s teasing cross from the left fell for Le Paih at the back post, who had time to control the ball and squeeze his finish past Allen.
Kingstonian had the first chance of the second half when Mitchal Gough’s looping header on 48 minutes was heading for the top corner until it was superbly tipped over the bar by Cawdron.
The Baggies nearly went 3-1 up in the 56th minute when Marko’s right-foot shot was well blocked by Allen at his near post.
Clear-cut chances were at a premium after that, but Kingstonian nearly equalised on 86 minutes when Simon’s close-range header was well held by Cawdron.
The visitors did get back on level terms in the 90th minute when Simon scored an overhead kick from close range to make it 2-2.
Next up for the Baggies is a home game against Moneyfields in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday, March 8 (3pm kick-off).
