Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was pleased with his side’s performance after they drew 1-1 at home to Rayners Lane in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
The Baggies created a number of chances in the first half and could have claimed all three points.
“I thought we were good to win the game in the first half,” said Smith.
“I thought we had enough chances to put them to bed.
“We went 1-0 up early on with a great finish and then missed chances.
“I knew they (Rayners Lane) would have a go in the second half.
“It was difficult. The pitch cut up and we didn't have a lot of the ball but we looked dangerous on the break and missed another couple of chances.
“We could have killed the game off and they are the key moments.
“The difference was when their guy goes through he's calm and composed and gets them a point.
“I don't think they (Rayners Lane) would have deserved more than that.
“Based on what we put into it, the first-half performance and the amount of chances we had we could argue we should have got three points, but you only get what you get and we didn't put the ball in the back of the net enough.”
The Baggies got off to the dream start, taking the lead through Joe Lewis-Evans’ first-minute goal, and Smith was delighted with his side’s fast start.
“It was nice because we haven't had that this season where the first shot goes in,” said Smith.
“It was a good finish and a good move.
“I’m pleased for Joe because that was his first goal.
“He's had opportunities so he needs to work on his decision making and being a bit more ruthless in the final third. That can win games for us.”
Rayners Lane improved after the break and rescued a point through Frank Keita’s 82nd-minute equaliser, but Smith was pleased with how his side stood up to the test in the second half.
“They (Rayners Lane) weren't going to come and not make changes and put good quality on to try to get something out of the game and go for the win,” said Smith.
“That was always going to happen and there was a lot of pressure but I thought we competed well in the second half.
“We showed a level of maturity and I thought the back four defended really well in their individual battles against good-quality opposition.
“A point is good, although I’m disappointed we haven't got all three.”
