Farnham Town assistant manager Jimmy Hibburt praised his side after they picked up an important three points against a promotion rival.

Town beat Uxbridge 2-1 at The Memorial Ground on Saturday to take a big step towards promotion from the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Hibburt admitted the result was the most important thing against Uxbridge, and was pleased with the character his side showed to get over the line as they close in on the league title.

“Our displays haven't been great for the past few weeks, they've been a bit nervy,” said Hibburt.

“We're getting that little bit closer to the end of the season and this was a massive result.

“We knew if we didn't get a result against Uxbridge it brings them into it.

“With Kingstonian drawing it's a huge result for us.

“Fair play to Uxbridge – they came and had a go.

“I thought they were brave and nearly got a draw at the end, but we held on well.

“Our defence has been outstanding.

“I never feel teams are going to score three or four against us – it's just about how ruthless we are at the other end.

“I don't think we've been quite on it lately but the back four and two holding midfielders have been superb.

“The boys are showing a different side.

“We know their ability and how good they are as a unit, but we're seeing another side of them.

“We should have been further ahead at half-time.

“In the second half we had to make sure the doubts didn't creep in and we kept doing what we were doing.

“We gave the ball away a bit cheaply in the second half and maybe went from back to front a little bit too quickly.

“We're good enough to look after the ball and build.

“We tend to build through the play, but I think it was about getting it over the line and that's what we did.”

League leaders Town are aiming for back-to-back promotions and can see the finish line in sight, but still have work to do to hold off the challenge from second-placed Kingstonian.

Hibburt stressed that continuing to pick up wins is the most important thing in the run-in.

“We don't care about the performances at this stage, it's about ticking them off and trying to get the job done,” said Hibburt.

“We're expected to win and we put pressure on ourselves.

“When you see that finish line nearly there that brings all sorts of pressures you have to deal with.”
