Farnham Town kept their promotion push on track with a 1-0 win against South Park (Reigate) in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Owen Dean’s 73rd-minute goal was enough to give Town the three points against a stubborn South Park side in front of a crowd of 579 at The Memorial Ground.

The hosts went close to opening the scoring in the tenth minute when Harry Cooksley’s 25-yard shot swerved wide of the right-hand post.

Town created another chance three minutes later when Cooksley tried to pick out Great Evans in the box and the ball was cleared to Jordan Gallagher, who fired his right-foot shot over the bar.

Joe Jackson was next to try his luck for Farnham on 16 minutes when he chopped onto his left foot and fired over the bar.

Former Farnham player Shamal Edwards had the visitors’ first attempt at goal in the 26th minute when he turned on the edge of the box and hit a left-foot shot straight at Town keeper Zaki Oualah.

Town continued to probe in search of a breakthrough and created a chance on 35 minutes when Ben Purcell picked out Sam De St Croix on the edge of the box and he hit a right-foot shot which was well held by South Park keeper Danny Bracken.

Farnham went close again just before half-time when Cooksley’s through ball picked out Adam Liddle, who laid the ball off for De St Croix on the edge of the box and his low shot was well held by Bracken.

Liddle had Town’s first chance of the second half in the 52nd minute when he was played in by Cooksley, but he hit his right-foot shot straight at Bracken.

The breakthrough finally arrived for Farnham on 73 minutes when Jackson’s pullback picked out Dean in the box, who fired emphatically into the roof of the net past Bracken.

Town pushed for a second and nearly scored in stoppage time when Darryl Sanders’ shot was well held by Bracken.

One goal proved to be enough for the hosts as they picked up another three points.

Next up for Farnham is a home game against Hayes & Yeading United in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Wednesday, March 19 (7.45pm kick-off).
