Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith has admitted relegation from the Isthmian League South Central Division is looming for his side.

The Baggies lost 4-0 at home to Leatherhead on Saturday and are now 15 points from safety with only six games left.

“I've tried to be optimistic,” said Smith.

“I've been pleased with some performances – people have grown this year and we've been building something.

“I hate being a defeatist but it's crossed my mind we're going to get relegated and it now looks that way.

“It's disappointing but maybe it goes to show where we need to be in order to have some success.

“A reset might be needed to build a new group like we did with the group we had before.

“We did well for two seasons, got promoted and kept half of them for the following season.

“It was disappointing that they left but that might be our cycle – we need to look at that as a club.

“Not having a group together for the majority of pre-season and starting badly left us chasing our tails.

“I do feel we've become more competitive – the group is pretty good.”
