Haslemere’s men’s first team produced a fine performance to win 3-1 at home to South Berkshire in South Central Men’s Premier Division One on Saturday.
The game started quickly, with both teams looking to push the tempo and control the game.
Haslemere defended well and created a number of chances in attack, but their final execution let them down and the teams went into the half-time break on level terms at 0-0.
South Berkshire came out for the second half with a new gameplan and caught Haslemere on the hop. A deflected goal from the returning Josh Cowell saw South Berkshire take the lead.
Going behind kicked Haslemere into life.
A quick break from the home side won a short corner, and top goalscorer Andy Powell stepped up to level the scores.
Haslemere were not done.
A break down the right-hand side saw Jacob in space in the D, and a shot was deflected by Ben Smith into Powell's path for his and Haslemere's second.
Powell wasn’t finished there and completed his hat-trick with a low drag flick from a short corner to seal Haslemere’s 3-1 win.
The hosts kept their discipline well throughout the game among a flurry a cards.
Haslemere’s women’s first team lost 3-1 at South Berkshire in South Central Women’s Premier Division Two on Saturday.
The visitors were 2-0 down at half-time after conceding two goals from short corners.
Haslemere pulled a goal back in the second half when Alice Toynton dribbled into the D and placed her shot into the bottom right-hand corner.
The visitors nearly scored a second when Toynton’s shot from the top of the D was well saved by the South Berkshire keeper, but the hosts ultimately ran out 3-1 winners.
Haslemere’s women’s first team will host Chichester on Saturday (2pm start).
