Bognor 62 Petersfield 0: PETERSFIELD’S woes continued unabated on Saturday as they were roundly thumped by second-placed Bognor in their fifth league match of the season.
Field put in a gutsy performance, battling bravely from start to finish; however, with yet more changes to their team line-up they were almost doomed to failure before they even took to the pitch.
Since the season began the list of injured and absent regular first team players has forced coach Andy Patience to build his team each week by who is available. If there is one silver lining in this gloomiest of dark clouds it is that the club now boast an enviable number of players committed to its senior section – a resource that Patience is having to plunder with monotonous regularity.
While the impact caused by the lack of team continuity was obvious, there were some good passages of play by Field which may have resulted in a score if the team’s execution had been just a little sharper.
In a fortnight’s time Field return home for their next league match, this time against third-placed Millbrook.
