The programme for the D-Day 80 commemorations in Petersfield has been confirmed.
Union Flags will be erected along the High Street next Monday in preparation for a small parade and service on Thursday, June 6.
Rolling road closures will be in place from 7am on Swan Street, Chapel Street, Sheep Street, The Square, St Peter’s Road, High Street and Dragon Street for two hours.
A parade will form up in The Square at 7.45am and will march to the war memorial after an 8am proclamation by town crier Faye Thompson.
A D-Day 80 service led by St Peter’s Church will begin at 8.15am and will be followed by a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths at the war memorial.
The parade will be dismissed at 8.25am with all roads around the town centre expected to be reopened by 9am.
The programme to commemorate the Overlord operation has been organised by the town council and the Petersfield branch of the Royal British Legion.
Town councillors and staff, the Mayor’s Cadet, district councillors, RBL members, 1927 (Petersfield) Sqn ATC and Churchers College & CFF members are among the guest list, along with representatives from Petersfield-area schools.
A commemorative tree will be planted at 7pm at the Newman Collard Park Memorial Garden in Liss on the same day.
The Liss Band will perform from 7.30pm while a beacon will be lit at 9.15am. Street food will be available from Simply Hog Roast, Earth to Oven and Dessies Café.
