Grants of up to £15,000 are available to green-minded groups, organisations in charities in East Hampshire for projects dedicated to tackling climate change.

But time is running out as the deadline for Climate Grant Applications will close at 5pm this Bank Holiday Monday.

East Hampshire District Council has made a final call for applications for their Community Climate Action Fund with £70,000 ready to be dished out.

Projects which engage with the community on climate issues while supporting carbon reduction and encouraging behaviour change will be considered.

Car sharing and food waste reduction schemes, greening projects, community learning events and initiatives that help residents to save energy at home are examples of applications that will be considered.

Capital projects which request sums of £5,000 to £15,000 will be favoured in this latest round of funding, with £178,000 of Community Climate Action money being already handed out to 21 schemes around the district.

The winning projects range from making community buildings more energy efficient to offering support and education within the community to help residents to reduce their own carbon footprint.

Previous winners include the King’s Arms Youth Project, which was given £10,000 towards heat pumps and air conditioning at their Alton site, and £8,000 to upgrade Petersfield Town FC’s floodlights to LEDs to reduce power usage.

Support is available to help groups to put together their application. For more details and to apply look for ‘community climate action fund’ at www.easthants.gov.uk
