Badshot Lea’s relegation from the Isthmian League South Central Division has been confirmed.

Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Ashford Town (Middlesex) sealed the Baggies’ fate.

Goals from Jack Arnold and George Vorster (2) gave Ashford the three points.

Baggies boss Gavin Smith admitted he had feared relegation was looming for his side.

“We knew relegation was probably coming,” said Smith.

“The performance against Ashford was terrible.

“We didn’t have an edge.

“I get it – we were on the verge of being relegated – but if you miss that little bit of an edge it shows.

“Ashford are fighting for their lives and it showed.

“There are still five games left this season and we want to make sure we finish the season properly.

“We’ve also got to think about next season and who we want to keep here.

“Hopefully we can keep a core of the group together this summer and won’t have to completely rebuild from scratch in pre-season like we had to last summer.

“Our budget will dictate what we can do and we will have conversations with the club to establish what the expectations are for next season.”
