Farnham Town came from behind to beat Raynes Park Vale 2-1 in a pulsating encounter in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Joe Jackson’s equaliser and an own goal by Seanan McKillop earned Farnham the three points in front of a crowd of 987 at The Memorial Ground.

Town nearly broke the deadlock in the sixth minute when Great Evans clipped an inviting ball to the back post, where the stretching Owen Dean hit his effort against the outside of the post.

The hosts continued to probe and nearly took the lead on 22 minutes when Harry Cooksley’s inswinging corner clipped the top of the Raynes Park crossbar.

Farnham went close again four minutes later when Cooksley’s clipped ball into the box found Adam Liddle, whose flicked header went over the bar.

Town won a free kick in a dangerous area in the 29th minute, but Cooksley dragged his effort wide of the near post.

Raynes Park took the lead on 38 minutes when a corner was superbly attacked by Cameron Black, who emphatically headed home past Farnham keeper Hugo Sobte.

Town responded positively to going behind and nearly equalised when Max Meaton fizzed an inviting ball across the six-yard box which evaded the Farnham attackers.

Farnham went close again when Dean’s driven ball across goal found Liddle at the back post, but he wasn’t able to divert his effort on target.

Town started the second half brightly and nearly equalised on 47 minutes when Evans slipped Sam De St Croix in on goal, but his touch was heavy and he was eased off the ball.

The home side went close again five minutes later when a long ball over the top found Liddle, who saw Raynes Park keeper Billy Bishop off his line but hooked his effort wide of the far post.

Raynes Park nearly doubled their advantage in the 55th minute when Jordan Gallagher spotted Sobte off his line and his audacious effort from distance hit the far post.

Farnham went back on the attack and Cooksley’s cut-back picked out De St Croix, whose effort was blocked. A scramble followed in the Raynes Park box, with Liddle and Mark Waters both having efforts well blocked.

Town produced a free-flowing move on the hour mark when Meaton slid in De St Croix, who picked out Evans in the box. Evans hit a fierce effort at goal which was well pushed away by Bishop from close range.

The pressure was building and Farnham got back on level terms on 63 minutes when Jackson cut in from the left and curled a superb effort into the far corner.

Town continued to press and scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute when substitute Shay Brennan’s cross was headed into his own net by McKillop.

Next up for Farnham is a trip to Metropolitan Police in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday, November 23 (3pm kick-off).
