Petersfield has been named the best rural destination for a cycling holiday in an English national park.

It topped a list of more than 200 towns and villages in a study compiled by bike insurance experts ProtectMyBike.

The New Forest dominated the top ten with four locations appearing on the list, while third-placed Lewes was the only other South Downs location to feature.

Petersfield ranked second for proximity to public transport thanks to its rail connection, and third for the number of cycle storage spaces at the nearest station with 172.

It also came fourth for the number of cycle parking spaces (13) and ninth for the number of routes mapped by other cyclists (309) in a study of 207 towns and villages.

Petersfield came saw off competition from Brockenhurst to top the list with locations in the Broads, Peak District and Dartmoor also making the top ten.
